The Unitarian Univeralist Service Committee(UUSC) advances human rights and social justice around the world, partnering with those who confront unjust power structures and mobilizing to challenge oppressive policies. UUSC envisions a world free from oppression and injustice, where all can realize their full human rights. UUSC was started in May 1940 as the Unitarian Service Committee by Waitstill Sharp, a minister of the Unitarian Church in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, and his wife Martha. Its initial mission was to coordinate the rescue of European Jews and anti-Nazi political leaders from war-torn Europe.
The mission of UUSC is guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), as well as Unitarian Universalist principles, which affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
OCUUC works with the UUSC through their Guest At Your Table program. Guest at Your Table is a meaningful and simple way to incorporate faith in action into your congregation's worship experience, or into your family's life. For the duration of the program, families keep a Guest at Your Table box in a prominent place in their home and get to know their special Guests through Stories of Hope.
