Groups: Covenant Groups

The easiest way to make friends and to become a part of the OCUUC community is to join a Covenant Group. These groups consist of 8 or 10 people who covenant to participate for a specific amount of time, usually a six-month period. The covenant groups are formed mostly on the basis of geographic location, but many groups are comprised of people who live in different parts of the county.

Each covenant group decides how often and when to meet. Monthly get-togethers during the week are the most common. Meetings are held in people's homes, with everyone bringing a food or drink item to share. The host usually provides the entree. The covenant meeting starts after the meal is over, usually with a chalice lighting ceremony that includes a reading by the group leader. People then take turns relating eventful moments or happenings in their lives since the last get-together. The group then discusses the topic of the evening, which is selected by the leader.
