Orange Coast Choir, OCUUC’s Adult Choir
Our Mission is to light our hearts and the hearts of others by sharing inspirational music that enhances worship.
It's a great time to join ORANGE COAST CHOIR because we're just starting our 2010-2011 season after being off for the summer. Rehearsals begin again on August 19 -- Thursday nights, 7:30-9:00pm in the sanctuary. The choir sings approximately 3 times a month (both services). The only requirements are that you can match pitch and follow directions. You don't have to sightread or be an experienced singer. Youth are also welcome to join us. Contact Beth Syverson if you have any questions or concerns -- musicdirector@ocuuc.org or 714-376-6666.
We love to make music that is beautiful, that touches the spirit, warms the heart, and stimulates the intellect. We enjoy working hard to achieve our goals, and we value the satisfaction that comes when we do well. We sing a variety of music – classical art music, Broadway songs, folk tune arrangements, world music, and even some jazz.
Few of us are trained singers, but we grow in sight singing and vocal technique at each rehearsal. Many have been in the choir for several years, but some are newcomers. We enjoy learning new things and are open to many new vocal experiences.
How to Join Orange Coast Choir
We welcome experienced singers and novices alike. Reading music is an advantage but is not required. If you love to sing, can match pitch, and follow directions, we would love to have you come join us. Contact Beth Syverson to find out when is the best week to jump in, or just show up early to a rehearsal and talk to Beth in person.
Orange Coast Choir rehearses every Thursday evening (excluding summer and holidays) in the sanctuary of the church from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. On Sundays, Orange Coast Choir sings (2–3 times per month), the time commitment is from about 9:00 a.m. to noon.
In addition to providing anthems and responses on Sunday morning, the Orange Coast Choir presents an annual spring concert. The 2009 concert, Immigration Stories, explored many facets of the humanitarian crisis surrounding immigration in this country. The 2008 concert featured Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) and other earth-honoring works.
