Adult Programs at OCUUC
Adults need Sunday School, too. But we frequently have other things
to do on Sunday (like attending the service). OCUUC offers a wide range of
programs to meet the interests of our adult members. From personal ethics to a
study of the life and times of Jesus to bulding your own theology to mediation
workshops, you are likely to find something that will strike a chord of interest within
you.

There are many ways people of all ages can become involved in the Music
Program at OCUUC. The Orange Coast Choir performs
2–3 times per month (excluding summer), the Children's Choir (grades K–5)
sings approximately once a month at the 11:00 service, the Festival Choir performs
for holidays and special events, and the Family
Choir rehearses
and performs in every month in which there are 5 Sundays. There are even opportunities
for instrumentalists to perform. E-mail Beth Nakao at musicdirector@ocuuc.org for
more information.

Religion is that core of ultimate
meanings, values, and convictions to which we commit our lives. Theology
is the reflection upon and criticism of meanings, values, and
convictions. It is both a task and a privilege to be part of a movement
that takes individuals seriously, and at the same time sees them as
members of a learning community.
—Richard S. Gilbert
Small groups of UUs engage in a systematic, disciplined and communal
process to build individual credos, or statements of individual beliefs.

Ethics: An Exploration in Personal Morality |
Ethics is concerned that the way we behave is determined in large part by what we believe. Individuals enjoy self-determination in behavior, within limits, and ought to use that freedom to decide their actions. During this six-to-eight week course, we confront the questions we have about ethical behavior using case studies and think through the ethical dilemmas from a liberal religious perspective. |

Leadership Training is offered to all OCUUC committees throughout the year. The topics center on useful ideas, process and techniques for committee chairs and members of OCUUC. Much of the material is useful in other profit and non-profits. Presentations, discussions, and simulations are used. Hand outs and other materials are distributed.
The topics include how to run a meeting; agendas, rules of order; planning, goal objectives and evaluation; job descriptions; committee charters; church forms and procedures; by-laws and standing rules; individual communication skills; church board and finances; and publicity. |
